English: Land to the N of Seamark Road under development From the developers web site:- "...Specialist growers of tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers, will be producing salad crops in seven new large-scale glasshouses at the site in Kent, named Thanet Earth.
The 91 hectare site will also house a 30,000 square metre packhouse and a marketing company to sell these salad crops, mainly to the UK supermarkets. The crops will be grown hydroponically, under lights, 52 weeks of the year. The heat and carbon dioxide needed for the complex will come from the UK's largest horticultural installation of Combined Heat & Power technology, whilst also generating enough power for the National Grid to power 50,000 homes. The first glasshouses will be erected in March 2008, with produce hitting the shelves from November 2008." |
