| Description |
English: Regimental Number 2528, Lance Corporal Alfred W.G. Enoch served with 1/5th Battalion, Gloucestershire Regiment. He was killed in action on 21 July 1916 and awarded the Military Medal.
Biography extract from St Peters local history website: Alfred was a former member of the Territorial Army, rejoining his unit in August 1914 at Cheltenham. He was sent abroad on 29 March 1915 and distinguished himself three times, once in September 1915 at Hébuterne, for which he was promoted to Lance-Corporal, and again on 15 November 1915 and during at the capture of Ovillers during the battle of Bazentin, when he met his death, following which he was awarded a Military Medal for Bravery in the Field. He has no known grave but is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial and included on the Cheltenham, Leckhampton and St Philip and St James’s War Memorials. |
