English: An ironsmith working at the Lancashire hearth in the Lancashire finery forge in Ramnäs, Sweden. The picture is taken in January 1963. The Lancashire process in Ramnäs was closed 1964, and they were then the last Lancashire hearths in the world to be closed.
Svenska: En smed arbetar i januari 1963 vid en lancashirehärd i Ramnäs bruks lancashiresmedja. Träkol kommer från en bana upptill och störtar ned i ett plåtschakt till vänster utanför bild, där det hämtas och skyfflas in i härden. Tackjärn matas in i härden. Tackjärnet förvärms först och smälts sedan genom det brinnande kolet. Smältan i botten bryts manuellt upp med brytspett (se bild) flera gånger. Brytningen underlättas av de upp- och nedgående horisontella hjälpbrytarna som syns ovanför härden. Ett grovt spett som kallades storspett eller länsman användes när smältan slutligen skulle brytas upp och vältas över till smältkärran för vidare transport till ånghammaren. När lancashireprocessen i Ramnäs lades ner 1964 var det den sista i världen som stängdes. Referens boken Träskoadel ISBN 91-7108-080-5, sidan 62 - 71 och 92. |
