Description

Side detail of the angel in the Lamson-Sessions Memorial in Section 28 of Riverside Cemetery in Cleveland, Ohio.

Thomas H. Lamson (1827-1882) and his brother, Isaac P. Lamson (1832-1912) formed the Lamson & Sessions bolt manufacturing company in Connecticut with cousin Samuel W. Sessions (1826-1902). The three emigrated to Cleveland, taking their company with them. It became one of the largest manufacturers of industrial fastenings in the United States. The company later acquired Youngstown Steel Door Co., Medso Inc., Midland Steel Products Co., and Forest City Foundries.

Isaac later co-founded the Visiting Nurse Association and Pilgrim Congregational Church, and saw that the first home economics classes were taught in city schools.

Sessions was a founding trustee of Riverside Cemetery.

The monument was designed and built by the New England Granite Works in 1877. The design had been exhibited at the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia.
