Looking west from Pak Kok Tsuen (village) on Lamma Island, just south of Hong Kong island, as the sun goes down. A small craft rounds the point and a cargo ship with cranes is moored further out. This is the view from the roof of a house on a slight rise between the valley and the sea (Lamma Channel). These photos were taken about a year after Mt Pinatubo erupted in the Phillipines. It is claimed that Turner's classic sunsets were caused by dust from Krakatoa's 1883 eruption; it's certainly true that Hong Kong had these amazing Turneresque sunsets around the period corresponding to Mt Pinatubo's activity.
