Lake View Park 1901

Description

On Lake Erie in general area of present City Hall. Land for Lake View park was purchased in 1873. and the landscaping took several years. By the late 1870s it was a recreation area with walks, drives and a fountain. An iron fence protected park visitors from the railroad tracks. After 20 years, the proximity to the railroad took its toll on Lake View Park. Smoke from the Lake Shore Railroad blackened the foliage and the trees died.
