| Description |
The Town of Lake City is a Statutory Town that is the county seat of, and the only incorporated municipality in, Hinsdale County, Colorado, United States. The town population was 375 at the U.S. Census 2000. The Lake City Historic District, roughly bounded by Bluff, 8th, Lake, and 1st Streets, contains many of the over 200 historic buildings that remain from the 19th century mining boom. Lake City was incorporated in 1875, and quickly developed as a supply center for miners and prospectors in the San Juan Mountains. Lake City's population peaked around 1900, at the height of the mining boom, then dwindled as the mines were closed.
