Elle a été déposée parmes soins dans le musée de notre bibliothèque publique,où elle fait ladmiration de tous ceux qui la voient. Ellea été brisée par la maladroite curiosité de celui qui lavaittrouvée, et une partie de linscription manque; cependantlon peut y reconnaître encore avec certitude le nomde MAXIMIANVS AVGVSTVS; cétait sans doute MAXIMIENHERCVLE5, quia souvent séjourné dans les Gaules, et dont 1 Police sur quelques monuments gallo-romains du département duBas-Rhin, t. XVI, p. 95, des Mémoires de la Soeiété royale des an-tiquaires de France, 1842. 2 Par verre colorié lauteur entend sans doute un verre teint dansla pâte, ou émaillé. 3 Empereur romain, né en Pannonie vers lan 250, mort à Marseilleen 310.
