Description
English: Title: La sublime porta crollante

Abstract: Italian political cartoon shows delegates to the Congress of Berlin outside a castle with a crumbling entrance labeled "Sublime Porta" which is supported by timbers labeled "Del Bosforo", "Discordi", "Rivolta Mussulman", and "Contribuzioni", as well as one timber labeled "Trattato Di Parigi" supporting a tower. At center, Aleksandr Gorchakov is tugging on an ear of a British delegate, forcing him to consider the "Tratato Santo Stef[ano]"; seated on the right is Otto von Bismarck holding papers of the congress and standing next to him is Gyula Andrássy with his left hand on Bismarck's shoulder and gesturing with his right arm. On the left, a Turkish sultan is tugging on the ear of the Khedive of Egypt, Ismail Pasha, telling him that from now on he will represent Ottoman interests and, pointing to a wheelbarrow and broom, suggests that Ismail will spend the rest of his time cleaning up. In the background are two pyramids, one labeled "Guerra" and the other labeled "Pace". Physical description: 1 print : chromolithograph ; sheet 41.4 x 58.4 cm.
