Les peintures murales de la salle des magnificences représentent les grandes actions dynastiques des Farnese : mariages princiers, actions diplomatiques, guerres.. Peintures de Taddeo Zuccari 1561-1563 Sur le mur du fond, au-dessus de la porte, le portrait de Philippe II, roi d'Espagne, entouré de peintures des mariages d'Horace Farnese avec Diane de Valois (1552) et d'Octave Farnese avec Marguerite d'Autriche (1538). Sur le mur de droite, la "guerra Luterana", guerre avec les protestants (1546) Sur le mur de gauche, Jules III restitue Parme aux Farnese Au plafond, sont représentés des allégories et différents épisodes historiques impliquant des membres de la famille Farnese ------- Le palais Farnese de Caprarola a été conçu par l'architecte Jacopo Birozzi Vignola, connu sous le nom de Vignola, en 1555 pour le cardinal Alessandro Farnese (1520-1589), petit-fils du Pape Paul III, le Pape qui a confié la réalisation de la Chapelle Sixtine à Michel-Ange. Il a fait appel aux meilleurs artistes de son époque dont beaucoup travaillaient déjà pour la Papauté. Ce palais de style Renaissance, construit entre 1555 et 1575, a remplacé un projet de forteresse située au sommet d'une arête rocheuse dont les fondations de forme pentagonale ont été conservées par l'architecte. Il comprend plusieurs étages organisés autour d'une cour centrale circulaire et de grands jardins. La grande rue du village de Caprarola a été construite dans l'axe du Château qui domine la région.
