English: This illustration is taken from a 30-page booklet, measuring 102 × 132 mm (in fact, 4 inches by 5 inches and 3/16 inches), entitled "Rearmed". We can date it thanks to a declaration attributed to President Roosevelt on the back of the last page, dated January 2, 1944, which says: "I envision the day, fortunately near today, where the French inside and outside outside France will join their American and British allies to drive the oppressor from French soil. A note states that this booklet was "Published by the United States War Information Service U S F 91" (Office of War Information). It was probably dropped by an American plane over occupied France during the bombing campaign of the first half of 1944, probably in the region of Rennes where its owner picked it up, and in the archives of which it was found in 2019. Archives Jean Grosons of Matons.
The photograph at the bottom of the page is of the meeting of Henri Giraud, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Charles de Gaulle and Winston Churchill at the Casablance conference, which was held between 14 and 24 January 1943. |
