Transcripción de la ficha: "San Ildefonso, arzobispo de Toledo, aparece postrado ante la Virgen, quien desciende de los cielos para agradecer al pastor sus tratados y composiciones litúrgicas en loor de su perpetua virginidad, suscribe el investigador Jaime Cuadriello.

El hecho, exaltado en toda la iconografía del santo, celebra la llamada imposición de la casulla por manos marianas. Esta prenda, en la tradición católica romana, se coloca sobre el alba sacerdotal para la celebración de la misa. En el mundo virreinal, siguiendo los patrones europeos, cada elemento del ajuar litúrgico tenia un significado simbólico. Confeccionados con hilo de oro, plata y seda, los motivos de las casullas solían representar temas evangélicos, vidas de santos y pasajes marianos y cristológicos. (Símbolo y Reino, 2023)
