Description

La cour intérieure du Zeughaus / Arsenal réaménagée par I.M. Pei en 2006 L'Arsenal est le plus beau bâtiment baroque situé le long du boulevard Unter den Linden. Il abrite aujourd'hui le Deutsches Historisches Museum.

Il date de 1706 et a été construit, probablement selon les plans du français François Blondel, à proximité du Château (Stadtschloss).

Les décors du bâtiment sont de divers sculpteurs dont Andreas Schlüter qui a créé les têtes des soldats mourants, sous forme de mascarons visibles au-dessus des fenêtres voutées dans la cour intérieure.

Après la dernière guerre, le bâtiment a été reconstruit à l'identique par l'architecte de la RDA : Otto Häsler et il est devenu le musée de l'Histoire allemande.

En 2003, l'architecte américain d'origine chinoise Ieoh Ming Pei a réaménagé la partie historique en couvrant la cour intérieure et a conçu une extension à l'arrière du musée. I.M. Pei a réalisé de très nombreux projets dans le monde dont la pyramide du Louvre à Paris.
