Das Gemälde wurde 1708 durch den Antwerpener Kunsthändler Franz Lemmers für Dresden erworben. Seine Ersterwähnung erfuhr es im Dresdner Gemäldeinventar von 1722–1728. Im Jahr 1940 wurde das Bild kriegsbedingt zunächst in der Albrechtsburg Meißen ausgelagert und von dort noch Ende April 1945 in den Kalksteinbruch Pockau-Lengefeld verbracht. Es gehört zu den Werken, die seit Ende des Zweiten Weltkrieges vermisst werden.
