Description

La Synagogue

La Synagogue est représentée vaincue par l'Eglise triomphante, selon un thème fréquent à partir du XIIIème siècle. Cette représentation est conforme à la description du théologien Albert le Grand (vers 1200-1280), d'après les "Lamentations de Jérémie" (cartel)

Statue du portail est du bras sud du transept de la cathédrale Notre-Dame de Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin) vers 1230 moulage de l'original présenté à la Cité de l'architecture et du patrimoine

L'allégorie de la Synagogue est représentée avec un bandeau sur les yeux, une lance cassée à la main droite et cinq tablettes qui s'échappent de sa main gauche. Son aveuglement est l'expression de son refus de reconnaître dans le Christ le Messie attendu.
