Description

Prométhée polonais ou Allégorie de la Pologne vaincue Oeuvre d'Horace Vernet (1789-1863) 1831 Huile sur toile Paris, Société historique et littéraire polonaise, Bibliothèque polonaise.

La révolte des polonais contre le tsar de Russie en 1831 a été réprimée dans la sang. Elle a provoqué l'émigration de milliers de polonais en France dont le poète Adam Mickiewicz et le pianiste Frédéric Chopin.
