Description
Français : Photographie de Mike (de dos) et de sa femelle, des gorilles (Gorilla gorilla) du Zoo de la Palmyre.

Les gorilles sont les plus grands des primates anthropoïdes. Ce sont des singes africains. Leur aire de répartition se partage sur deux massifs forestiers géographiquement distants, l'un est situé à l'est de l'Afrique centrale, l'autre à l'ouest de celle-ci.

Dressés, les gorilles atteignent une hauteur de 1,75 m, leur taille est d'ailleurs un peu plus grande, puisque ces animaux ont toujours les genoux fléchis. L’envergure de bras dépasse la longueur de corps et peut aller jusqu'à 2,75 m. En poids, il existe de grandes différences entre les sexes : alors que les femelles pèsent seulement 70 kg jusqu'à 90 kg environ, les mâles peuvent atteindre 275 kg, et les animaux en captivité particulièrement bien nourris atteignent même 350 kg.

La couleur de fourrure des gorilles est le plus souvent noire, chez les mâles les plus âgés se développe sur le dos une fourrure grise argentée, ce qui fait qu’on les appelle des « dos d'argent ».
