Description

La partie nord de la place Durbar Square (place du palais) est occupée par le Malati Chowk qui a été construit par le roi Bhupatindra Malla en 1707 dans l'ancien palais royal

Ce palais a été construit par Yaksha Malla qui a régné de 1428 à 1482. Il a été agrandi par ses successeurs. Une grande partie du palais a été détruite par le tremblement de terre de 1934.

Les bâtiments de l'aile ouest (photo) ont été restaurés et sont ouverts à la visite. La Galerie nationale d'art a été installée dans le Malati Chowk, bâtiment en briques au centre de la photo . Son entrée est gardée par deux lions en pierre.
