User comments | -de-Fonds (Kanton Neuenburg / République et Canton de Neuchâtel, Schweiz), Bahnhofgebäude von 1878; Km 29,6 von Neuchâtel, Km 77,8 von Bern (via Biel); 994m ü.M. – Plakat zum Eidgenössischen Turnfest in La Chaux-de-Fonds von 1900 (rechts) Die Uhrenmetropole La Chaux-de-Fonds im Neuenburger Jura ist mit über 37.000 Einwohnern die drittgrösste Stadt der französischen Schweiz. 1794 durch eine Brandkatastrophe vollständig zerstört, wurde La Chaux-de-Fonds nach einem detaillierten Plan reissbrettartig, mit völlig parallel und im rechten Winkel verlaufenden Strassen und Häuserblöcken wieder aufgebaut. Wegen der Höhe von fast 1000 Meter und der damit verbundenen, besonders strengen Winter sind viele Häuser aus massiven Steinmauern gebaut, was der Stadt eine besondere architektonische Note als "schweizerisches Sibirien" gibt. Ans Eisenbahnnetz angeschlossen wurde die Stadt 1857 durch die Compagnie Jura Industriel (JI, später Chemin de fer du Jura Neuchâtelois/JN) mit der - 1884 nach Besanc,on in Frankreich verlängerten - Linie nach Le Locle und zwei Jahre später, 1859/60 mit der Bahn über Les Hauts-Geneveys – Chambrelien nach Neuchâtel/Neuenburg. Nach dem Durchstich des 1618m langen Crosettes-Tunnels wurde 1888 auch die seit 1874 nach Convers geführte Linie der Compagnie Jura Bernois (Berner Jura-Bahn/JB, später Jura-Bern-Luzern-/JBL und ab 1890 Jura-Simplon-Bahn/J-S) aus Biel/Bienne über St-Imier/St. Immer in den Bahnhof von La Chaux-de-Fonds eingebunden. Damit wurde ein Neubau des Bahnhofsgebäudes notwendig, der 1878 fertiggestellt wurde– einem besonders repräsentativen Bau mit grosser Eingangshalle und Gleisen in Hochlage (Bild links). Schliesslich folgten noch zwei Meterspur-Bahnen, die 1889 fertiggestellte Pont-Sagne-Chaux-de-Fonds-Bahn (PSC) nach Les Ponts-de-Martel - 1947 mit dem Régional des Brenets zu den Cheims de fer des Montagnes Neuchâtelois/CMN vereinigt - und 1892/93 der Régional Saignelégier-Chaux-de-Fonds (SC), seit 1944 Teil der Jura-Bahnen (Chemins de fer du Jura/CJ). |
