Title
LVPL-DBA575
Description
English: Cast copper alloy hair pin dating to the Roman period, (43-410AD). The object has a conical shaped head and can be classed using Cool's typology as group 1, Knob heads. The head is 5.81mm in width and 2.78mm thick. The shank of the pin expands part of the way down as with Sub-group E. Below the expansion the shank tapers towards a point. The point remains sharp. The lower part of the shank has been bent in two places. This type is likely to have been in use during the first two centuries AD. The object has a dark brown patina and is in good condition. Similar examples can be found on p153, Cool, (1990).
