Title
LVPL-D5AFB2
Description
English: Cast copper alloy object of uncertain date and function. The object is sub-crescentic in plan with domed surfaces and is hollow. The top of the object is complete resulting in a large D-shaped perforation below. A decorative band of three grooves extends around the perimeter of the object. Each face of the object is undecorated. The object has a mid-brown patina and is corroded.

A similar object which can be found on the database is BH-439987 which has been identified as an ear ring. Several similar artefacts, identified as ear rings, have been found in the Champagne region of France and are illustrated in the Morel Collection (I.M. Stead and V. Rigby; 1999; fig. 120). They generally date to the late La Tène I period. However, the French examples differ slightly in that they appear to have been made from thin sheet metal and bent and pressed into shape. Unlike the French examples and BH-439987 this object is complete at the top and therefore can not function as an ear ring.
