Description |
English: Cast copper alloy tweezers dating of Roman to Anglo-Saxon date. They are almost complete and consist of a single piece of copper alloy. Each arm of the object is joined by the attachment loop at the top. The arms are narrow below the loop and flare outwards towards the ends. An incised marginal groove runs parallel to both edges. Where the arms start to flare outwards there are two horizontal grooves. Below these grooves are a central line of five ring-and-dot decorations. On one arm the final ring-and-dot decoration is missing and a perforation remains in its place. A ring-and-dot also decorates the arms to the left and right of the final decoration. The tweezers blades are folded in toward each other. The wide flaring arms suggest that a Middle Saxon date for these tweezers is more likely than a Roman one. The object has a dark green patina and is in good condition. A similar example which can be found on the database is SF-E51581. |
