Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The Stanier Princess Coronation class was the premier LMS express passenger design, with 38 being built between 1937 and 1948.

'City of Birmingham' was built in 1939 for the LMS as No6235. She was originally streamlined and was the first of the class to be built with a double chimney, with earlier engines being modified later. She was also the first streamlined Coronation to have her streamlining removed, which took place in April 1946. In 1948 she became 46235 under British Railways and was repainted in Brunswick Green livery in April 1953. She remained in service until September 1964 and was then stored at Nuneaton until going on display at the Birmingham Museum of Science and Industry. When that museum closed she was moved to her current home, where she is almost impossible to photograph! thinktank, Birmingham science museum, Millennium Point, Birmingham, UK
