LIN-2FAD4F: Early Anglo-Saxon nail cleaner
Description
English: An incomplete, cast, copper-alloy nail cleaner of Early Saxon date (c. AD 410-600).

The object is sub-triangular with a curved handle, projecting backward, probably for attachment to a loop. From the handle, the object flattens and widens to a rounded terminal. A series of double transverse notches or incised lines are irregularly spaced along the front. The reverse is undecorated.

Length: 36.52 mm; Width: 5.09 mm; Thickness: 0.94 mm; Weight: 1.02g

This object was found nearby other brooches (<a href="https://finds.org.uk/database/artefacts/record/id/1001790">LIN-2F57A5</a> and <a href="https://finds.org.uk/database/artefacts/record/id/1001792">LIN-2F71E8</a>), a girdle hanger, wrist-clasp and spangle (<a href="https://finds.org.uk/database/artefacts/record/id/1001795">LIN-2F90B5</a>) of similar date which would suggest a probable heavily disturbed female grave.
