Description
English: A photo of the LHA-6 USS America under construction at Ingall's Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, Mississippi. This is the first LHA to be built since the LHA Peleliu, which was ordered in November 1970 and Commisioned in May 1980. Ingalls and Northrop Grumman have been building the similar, 8 Wasp Class, LHD's since getting the order in February 1984 and commisioned in 1989. The last being the LHD-8 USS Makin Island which was commisioned in October 2009.
