Title |
LEIC-EDF645: Medieval or post-medieval annular buckle pin |
||
Description |
English: A copper alloy late Medieval or Post-Medieval annular buckle pin. It is of heavy, cast construction, sub-rectangular in section with a pointed tip and a raised rectangular moulding decorated with transverse grooves on the outer face below the head. It's large size suggests that it came from a buckle rather than a brooch. The head simply curves round, but part is missing. Egan and Pritchard (1991, 64) suggest that the annular buckle form was in use from the late 14th century into the Post-Medieval period. Two buckles with very similar pins are illustrated in the report on the Meols assemblage (Griffiths et al. 2007, pl.13, no.430&432).
