Description LC-USZ62-16880: Lieutenant Commander Richard L. Byrd checking a sextant, for probable use for the trip to the North Pole on May 9, 1926. Byrd and Machinist Floyd Bennett received the Medal of Honor for this flight in 1927. The image was manipulated prior to transfer. (2015/10/09)
