Description LC-Lot-8331-1:WWI-American Expeditionary Forces. The work of the Inland Water Transportation Company, formerly 57th Engineers, USA, is to ship supplies to the troops by means of inland water ways and in that manner help to relieve the railroads. Where soldier labor is short, civilians are used instead. View shows civilians inside of a barge juggling the heavy sacks around into place, for their journey to the Rhine, Rouen, Seine Infer, France, February 11, 1919. U.S. Army Signal Corps Photograph.
