Title |
LANCUM-179F42: Roman Samian ware vessel fragment |
||
Description |
English: Rim sherd of a shallow Samian ware bowl or plate dating from the early Roman period, probably AD43-200. The fragment is very small and worn and it is difficult to ascertain which Samian form it came from. It seems like the outmost part of the rim was turned inwards rather than outwards which would be very unusual. However, alternatively it could be part of the wall of a bowl of Curle 11 or 38 or possibly a mortarium form Curle 21. All of these forms have a plain hooked flange down the outside wall and it is possible that the fragment was part of that. |
