Description
Deutsch: Ansicht vom Theaterplatz Richtung Nordwest, davor steht das König-Johann-Denkmal, das 1889 aufgestellt wurde. Das Theater erhielt bei den Luftangriffen im Februar 1945 schwere Schäden, doch keinen Volltreffer. Es brannte jedoch größtenteils aus. Nach Kriegsende wurde es bautechnisch gesichert und mit einem Notdach versehen. Der Wiederaufbau begann 1977, 1985 konnte der Theaterbau wieder in Betrieb genommen werden.
Der Name Semperoper ist vergleichsweise jung, der Architekt war zur Bauzeit als Folge der Revolution von 1848 in Sachsen unerwünscht.
