Summary
[edit]DescriptionL. V. Helms - Drawing of San Francisco, California, August 1851.jpg |
English: A painting of San Francisco, California by Danish adventurer, merchant, emissary and author Ludvig Verner Helms. The painting was likely created in August, 1850, although it is labeled as 1851; his book "Pioneering in the Far East" (1882) and other records record the visit occurring in 1850. Helms states the view was painted from "Flagstaff Hill" overlooking the town; when he returned to the area in 1872 he noted the hill was gone, "levelled by the spade". |
