Description

The L-19A was one of the first liaison and observation fixed wing aircraft developed exclusively for the U.S. Field Forces after World War II. An off-the-shelf Cessna aircraft with a modified cockpit, it made its initial flight in June 1950. In December, 1950, the first L-19A, Number '1327', was delivered to the U.S. Army Field Forces. . . [It] became the first L-19A delivered in Korea. '1327' served as personal observation aircraft for Generals Van Fleet, Ridgeway, and Taylor, and its experience provided the basis for the L-19 Pilots' Handbook. . . '1327' then served as liaison aircraft for General Choi Yong Dok, Chief of Staff for Republic of Korea Army. . . The L-19A aircraft series was redesignated O-1A in 1962." from Army Aviation Museum placard
