L'église Sant'Eufemia a été fondée au IXè siècle sur l'île de la Giudecca à Venise Elle a été restaurée à plusieurs reprises, les travaux de décoration (stucs, peintures,..) réalisés au XVIIIè siècle y sont encore très visibles.

L'église d'origine avait la forme traditionnelle d'une basiliques vénéto-byzantine, plusieurs colonnes et des chapiteaux datent de sa fondation. Elle comporte trois nefs qui sont orientées parallèlement au canal de la Giudecca.

La façade possède un intéressant portique.

Saint Roch est vénéré dans l'Église catholique romaine comme le protecteur contre la peste et les maladies contagieuses. La représentation de Saint Roch est caractéristique de ce Saint car il montre une plaie ouverte à la jambe gauche. C'est le signe de la peste qu'il a contractée en soignant les malades après avoir fait le vœu de pauvreté.
