Description

Extrémité supérieure d'une des tours techniques consacrée aux ascenseurs de l'immeuble de la Lloyd's of London

Conçu (1978-1986) par l'agence d'architecture Richard Rogers Partnership, cet immeuble étonnant, situé dans la City à Londres, est le siège social de la célèbre compagnie d'assurance Lloyd

L'édifice est un exemple d'architecture technologique, il a été conçu par Richard Rogers à la même époque que le centre Georges Pompidou qu'il a imaginé avec Renzo Piano.

Le bâtiment est structuré autour d'un hall central abritant les espaces de souscription, et donnant lieu à un volume vertical totalement vide, couvert par une voute en berceau.

Tous les cheminements verticaux, les conduits et les installations sanitaires sont rejetés à l'extérieur de l'édifice principal dans six tours satellites indépendantes. On retrouve ce concept au centre Pompidou où les tuyaux de circulation des fluides sont à l'extérieur du bâtiment d'exposition.
