Le canal de Porta Nova et une des deux tourelles de style néogothique Ce canal qui donne accès à l'Arsenal a été aménagé entre 1809 et 1811 pour le passage de navires de grandes dimensions. Défini par le gouvernement de la République comme le " coeur de l'état vénitien ", l'Arsenal fondé en 1104 par le Doge Falier, devint le plus puissant chantier naval du monde.
