Plus de légères banderolesautour des colonnes annelées, et les lignes horizon-tales sont coupées et morcelées (bossages) commedominées par la ligne verticale, volontaire et impla-cable. La console Louis XIII est réduite à la sévéritéde la palme dont nous avons dit la contrainte mais,souvent aussi,les feuillages de cette console sont trouésen manière de masque humain; le balustre encore, estsans charme ornemental. Il nous faut insister, enfin,sur le masque de lépoque, sur ce chérubin, sur cettetête dAmour si typique dans la décoration qui nousoccupe, cette tête dAmour aux ailes courtes, quuneperle allongée orne souvent au milieu du front.
