Summary

[edit]
Description

English: The abbey of Santa Giustina was founded in 722 by the will of the king of the Lombards Liutprando on the occasion of his trip to Pavia for the translation of the body of Sant'Agostino.

The monastery and the territory were part of the great royal and imperial monastic fiefdom of the abbey of San Colombano in Bobbio, in the province of Piacenza, since the Lombard era, and which therefore ultimately depended on the Holy See [4] [5] [6 ] [7].

Enlarged in 1033 by the Marquis of Sezzadio, Oberto, it reached its peak between the 12th and 13th centuries, remaining in the possession of the Benedictines until 1474. Later it passed to the abbots of Sant'Ambrogio di Milano, who installed a community of oblates. In 1810 a Napoleonic decree implementing the suppression of religious orders put an end to the monastic foundation (source wikipedia)
