Description
English: The play "Kamakura Sandaiki" ("Kamakura Trilogy") concerns the siege of Osaka castle and the defeat of Toyotomi Hideyori in 1615. Two brothers are generals on opposing sides. Takatsuna, the more able and daring of the two, commands the Minamoto forces defending the castle. He is shown in this print wearing the stylized costume of a farmer (with orange striped pants) in order to penetrate the enemy camp. The print is from Kunikazu's series, "The Sixty-Odd Provinces of Japan," and is subtitled "Osaka." Walters 95.80 is also from this series.
