Summary
[edit]DescriptionKuldïga, recently included in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites list (Copernicus).jpg |
English: On 17 September 2023, UNESCO added 40 new World Heritage sites to its list of protected approval. Among them is Kludïga, visible in this Copernicus Sentinel-2 image acquired on 12 September. Kludïga is a town in western Latvia on the banks of the Aleksupite river. Located in one of the greener countries in Europe, Kludïga is often nicknamed the “Venice of Latvia” and known for the Venta waterfall, the widest in Europe. This medieval city, an important administrative centre between the 16th and 18th centuries, has preserved the same street layout for centuries. Copernicus Sentinel’s open data enables mapping and monitoring of World Heritage Sites, with an average revisit time of 5 days at the equator. |
