English: LOS ANGELES - Crewmembers from Coast Guard Air Station Los Angeles pose with children from New Zealand with terminal illnesses and permanent disabilities at the Air Station as part of the children's special trip to the United States, Sept. 27, 2009.
During the children's visit, Coast Guard members gave them tours of the Air Station and the Coast Guard Cutter Halibut, hoisted them into an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter, explained and demonstrated how to wear the proper search and rescue equipment and fire-fighting equipment, and presented the children with Air Station Los Angeles patches, hats and official coins. These trips are made possible by Koru Care Southland, a charitable organization located in New Zealand that takes children with various illnesses and disabilities on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to the United States or Australia. Koru Care Southland was established in 1993 and over the past 16 years has taken 244 children on memorable trips to the United States and Australia. |
