| Description |
West 32nd Street, between 5th and 6th Avenues, makes up Manhattan's Koreatown. This bilingual street sign makes that clear, by also referring to the street on this block as Korea Way. The Koreatown in Manhattan is primarily made up of restaurants and karaoke bars, though there is a grocery store as well; more "living" Koreatowns (ones with grocery stores and megachurches) are found in Flushing, Queens and in Bergen County, New Jersey. In the US, the Korean population in Greater New York City is second only to that of Southern California, and New York City proper actually has more Koreans than Los Angeles. Ethnic Koreans in New York differ from those in California in that they are more likely to be from the industrial, conservative Gyeongsang provinces, as opposed to the agricultural, historically feudal, and currently left-leaning Jeolla provinces. |
