Description
English: Section of the Korbach fissure in the abandoned Fissler quarry at the southern outskirts of the town of Korbach, NW-Hesse, Germany. The fissure as a whole is up to 20 meters deep, up to 3,50 meters wide and has a total length of 1 kilometer. The fissure actually is filled by sediment but the upper part of the vertebrate-fossil-bearing fill has been removed through excavation works at this site. The tectonic fissure, probably pronounced by paleo-karstification, is situated within marine carbonatic rocks of the Upper Permian (“Zechstein”). The fill is only slightly younger than the surrounding rock (“Zechstein” as well).
Deutsch: Anschnitt der Korbacher Spalte im alten Steinbruch Fissler am Südrand von Korbach, NW-Hessen. Die Spalte ist bis zu 20 Meter Tief, bis zu 3,50 m Breit und insgesamt ca. ein Kilometer lang. Es handelt sich um eine verfüllte, wahrscheinlich durch Paläo-Verkarstung akzentuierte tektonische Spalte (oberer Teil der wirbeltierfossilführenden Füllung hier aufgrund von Ausgrabungsarbeiten weitgehend ausgeräumt) in Zechstein-Karbonaten (oberes Perm). Die Füllung ist nur geringfügig jünger als das Umgebungsgestein (ebenfalls Zechstein).
