Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Knowl Hill near Middle Claydon This view looking south is Knowl Hill which is 113m high. The hill is referred to in the papers of Sir Ralph Verney, the local landowner in the latter half of the 17th century. He regularly used the ploughing up of good pastures such as Knowl Hill, as a threat when he was desperate for a tenant, such ploughing at the time being harmful to the long term quality of the grass. The seat of the Verney family then was Claydon House in nearby Middle Claydon, and it remains so today.
