Title |
Knee Brooch : Roman |
||
Description |
English: An incomplete cast copper alloy probable knee brooch of Roman date (AD 43-200). The brooch consists of the broad fattened semi-circular heat and a partial convex bow which terminates in an old break. The reverse retains a horizontal projecting spring fitting with a minor amount of the wire pin retained and the bow is concave. The head of the brooch is smooth and undecorated while there are three evenly spaced fine integrally cast linear decoration running longitudinally. The lower half of the bow, foot, pin and catchplate are all missing due to an old break.
The metal is a mid green in colour with some lighter green patina within the head. Hattatt, P 334, Fig 193, No 1224. |
