| Description |
English: Up ECML coal train at Woolmer Green Box, near Knebworth. View northward, towards Hitchin and the North: ex-GN ECML. One of the countless coal trains up from New England Yards at Peterborough is being threaded through the Woolmer Green - Welwyn North two-track bottle-neck. The locomotive is headed by ex-WD 'Austerity' 2-8-0 No. 90288. This engine was built in 12/43 and loaned to the LNER at Tyne Dock, moving to the GWR at Ebbw Junction in 1/44 until sent to the Continent in 2/45: it was returned in 1947, being allocated to March LNE in 12/47; under BR it became No. 90288, working from New England and lasted until 12/62. |
