Deutsch: Westansicht des Augustiner-Chorherrenstifts in der niederösterreichischen Stadtgemeinde Klosterneuburg.
Am 12. Juni 1114 ließ der Babenberger Markgrafen Leopold III., genannt der Heilige, den Grundstein für die Stiftskirche legen und am 29. September 1136 wurde sie durch den Salzburger Erzbischof Konrad geweihtː [1]. 1133 holte er den Orden der Augustiner Chorherren nach Klosterneuburg, nachdem er zuvor noch ein Kollegiatstift plante. Ab 1730 erfolgte ein Aus- bzw. Neubau des Stifts unter Kaiser Karl VI. nach Plänen des Architekten Donato Felice d’Allio. Es war eine Art „Österreichischer Escorial“ geplant, jedoch die Bauarbeiten wurden nach Karls Tod (1740) eingestellt. Erst 1834 bis 1842 konnte wenigstens ein Viertel der geplanten Anlage durch den Architekten Joseph Kornhäusel vollendet werden. So gibt es heute nur einen der vier geplanten Höfe und nur zwei Kuppeln statt der geplanten neun konnten verwirklicht werdenː [2]. English: West view of Klosterneuburg Abbey. |
