Description
Deutsch: Informationstafel am "Klaren Loch" in der Hinterstraße bzw. verlängerten Heidestraße in Wernigerode

Inschrift: Am "Klaren Loch" war die tiefste Stelle der alten Stadt. Das Wasser des Mühlgrabens floss hier durch eine Öffnung in der Stadtmauer der Holtemme zu. Als gefährdete Stelle in der Stadtmauer erhielt der Durchfluss ein Gitter. "Klares Loch" entsprang wohl dem hintergründigen Harzer Humor. Wenn bei starkem Regen der Mühlbach den mittelalterlichen städtischen Unrat mit sich führte, dann war hier das Wasser alles andere als "klar".

Der Heidemühlgraben führte als Abzweig des Zillierbachs (Flutrenne) über den Teichdamm an der Walkmühle (Schiefes Haus) vorbei unter dem Markt entlang zum Klaren Loch und über den Ochsenteich zur Holtemme.
