Mrs. Robert Hamilton Smith 1800 Harris Road Philadelphia 18, Pennsylvania Dear Mrs. Smith: I am a little slow in answering your letter of the 17th, and must apologize; we have had a grievously busy time around here recently. Our information on securing state flags is pretty scant; we don’t know of any local source for flags of the fourteen states that you need. You might apply to a company in Philadelphia such as Standard Flag & Manufacturing Company, 716 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia 6, which is in the business of making flags; perhaps they know where to secure them. The flags could be set up by wiring to a stake in the ground, if individual flag stands are not to be had. (There is a sort of metal socket with a spike on the bottom, made to hold a flag, which would be perfect.) We can, of course, supply the U.S. flag with appropriate staff. Your invitation list already includes the name of Gettysburg’s mayor, Mr. William G. Weaver. As to press releases, we will have good advance publicity to our local papers, TV, and radio, but you will probably want to write up a release for the wire services in advance, so that there will be some nationwide publicity.
