Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Kiri, a term originated from Brunei and is believed to come from the word cherek, a place to store water. As one of the ceremonial tools in the custom of people in the interior, this kiri is not used by Brunei Malays as they usually are without carving and smaller. This particular kiri was kept in tribes and inherited by their children. Due to its rarity, long negotiations have to be made.

Carvings on the left show dragons, buffalos, dogs, lions and crocodiles, as well as armed people with shields. Carvings of flowers were also present. Although the carvings were made without any spiritual beliefs, it will instil, an animistic feeling towards this thing in the tribes.

This kiri was gifted by Awang Sawat bin Wab from Kampong Bukit Ulu Tutong in 1968. Body width is 144" and height (without handle) is 174".
