English: Kingscourt - Cabra Castle view from entrance driveway The castle is located to the east of R179, just a bit north of Kingscourt. This land originally included an old round tower castle called Cormey Castle, which belonged to the Foster family and was destroyed during the Cromwellian War. In 1795, In 1808, Henry Foster rebuilt Cormey Castle, but had to sell the property due to the debt incurred in rebuilding it. In 1813, Colonel Joseph Pratt bought Cormey Castle and renamed it Cabra Castle in 1820. In 1964, the Brennan family bought Cabra Castle and converted it into a 22 bedroom hotel. In 1986, an Arab group bought Cabra Castle and used it as a private residence. In 1991, the Corsadden reopened it as a hotel and eventually utilized the courtyard to add 58 bedrooms in separate buildings. |
